Holz & Harz Schmuck
Die wundervolle Verschmelzung von Holz und Harz zu Schmuck
28.09.2014

Alpana Bawa aus New York City, USA

What happens when merging wood and raisin?
Colored raisin in combination with wood seems to reflect the spirit of the time. More and more young designers creating handmade jewelry and bring their designs of wood and raisin onto the market.
The combination of the materials symbolize the coexistence of contrary opinions of our society: the wish to live more in tune with nature, nativeness of life and a down-to-earth mentality versus living a modern, artificial and eccentric lifestyle. The colorful jewelry pieces are beautiful to look at no matter what they might symbolize or not. And the best they fit to minimalistic outfits of urban fashionistas.
BoldB from Melbourne, Australia
Britta Böckmann born in Germany and having studied industrial design in Germany and England founded her label BoldB in 2014 now living in Australia, Melbourne. Britta is producing the pieces by hand out of Australian wood and transparent colored raisin. She is forming moulds for shaping the raisin, polishing and oiling the wood afterwards.
Finally great unique pieces inspired by the Australian flora and fauna are the result of the working process. Very special are the pendants and rings with gold flakes embedded in the raisin. This way the jewelry reminds me of Australian Opals that are sold in Australia as a national souvenir.
The jewelry of BoldB is available on Etsy.
Dunger Design from Hof, Germany
Like Britta from BoldB Marcel Dunger is not specifically a jewelry designer or goldsmith but studied product design. The wood raisin jewelry collection is the newest project by the Chemnitz born designer. Just now he was presenting his collection at the London Design Festival and soon launching his own online shop to sell his jewelry.
Marcel works with light maple wood over which he pours ecological raisin. In difference to BoldB using smoothed wood he uses splittered wood which reminds me of urban streets in Berlinm with creative rough street art.
Alpana Bawa from New York City, USA
I already worte about Alpana Bawa on my blog and presented the bangles made out of wood and raisin which I really love to wear. In contrast to BoldB and Marcel Dunger Alpana Bawa uses opaque raisin in bright colors combined with really dark wood.
